We spent last weekend in Geraldton. The church was having a Regional meeting. There was a very good speaker whom we could have listened to all day. A great delight. He challenged just about everyone - nonstop.
The following day we
took off on 300 fairly fruitless kilometres looking for wild flowers, firstly to
Mullewa where I had preached when I was a College student. The town was so dry,
everything was shrivelling up and dying. The best we did was a couple of
fields of Everlastings, which were about 7 cm tall. We drove through the wheat
belt country, it was pretty with some very interesting land formations.

We left then for
Eneabba, a Western Floral Caravan Park. The Manager there is an expert on Botany
and the WA wild flowers in particular. We did a long walk with him in the
evening and the following day we did a 4 WD tag-along trip over hill and dale,
through sand dunes and roads, until we were exhausted from photographing wild
flowers. We stopped at about ten places, with different plants.
I found the
only Black Kangaroo Paw out there. Early in the piece we pulled over whilst an
enormous shower of rain covered the whole area, and we sat there for half an
hour until it had rained itself out. Eventually we were out on the trails under
blue skies.
We brought home a
treasure-trove of fabulous photos, wild flowers galore. You just need the right
guide to take you.
