Queensland contrasts 29th June 2011

These pictures illustrate the glorious hand of the creator and the devastating hand of man, when it comes to the mining industry.

Mt Morgan, mining ceased but poison remains

Gladstone Harbour is a mixture of industry and beauty, I don’t want to give the impression it is all industry, because that would not be right.

The ocean leaving the beaches all day long prevents us getting a lot of very nice photos.  So I wanted to show how this appears.

Also some were wondering about what kind of country we see.   We are pleased that the Great Dividing Range has travelled with us most of the way and still continues beyond here and at least up to Cairns.
The Great Divide

We see mostly sugar cane growing here and the plants are being harvested now and have beautiful feathery grey/mauve flowers and are about seven feet tall.

We are at Airlie Beach and have had heavy rain and wind that keeps us awake at night, but the days are not too bad, at least, they are not cold. Tonight we took a look at Schute Harbour where all the boats go out to the Reef Islands.

Although it was coming dark and was shrouded in mist and cloud, yet the beauty is undeniable.  We hope to catch it off-guard early tomorrow morning for some beautiful pictures of the harbour and its attendant islands.  This surely is one of the most beautiful places we know in Australia.
